About
Kevin Abel’s story is rooted in resilience, conscience, and a belief in the promise of America.
His grandfather fled Nazi Germany to escape persecution, rebuilding his life in South Africa. When Apartheid made clear that injustice would again define their future, Kevin’s family chose principle over comfort, and immigrated to the United States. Displacement, moral clarity, and the search for dignity shapes Kevin’s lifelong commitment to equality, civic responsibility, and solidarity against bigotry.
Community and Business Leadership
After moving to North Fulton in 1990, Kevin and his wife, Cindy, founded Abel Solutions, a technology consulting company, and built it over more than two decades. Kevin measured success by whether employees left better off than they came, with new skills, stable jobs and good benefits.
Kevin served on the Georgia Department of Transportation Board and chaired it during his final year. He went on to become the founding executive director of Mobility Atlanta, which advocates for a regional approach to transit and transportation funding.
Through New American Pathways and Temple Sinai, Kevin helped Syrian and Iraqi refugee families settle in metro Atlanta, from getting to appointments to navigating daily life. He led an American Jewish Committee task force on antisemitism and serves as a presidential appointee on the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.
Personal Motivation
In 2017, while doctors were evaluating what became a stage-four cancer diagnosis, a paperwork problem briefly interrupted Kevin's health insurance. The problem was fixed, and he received excellent care and recovered. But for a time, he knew how frightening it is to face a serious illness while wondering whether you are covered.
Kevin and Cindy also saw the size of the bills, and how many families without good insurance or help navigating the system would be overwhelmed. That experience is why Kevin believes every Georgian should be able to see a doctor when they need one. His children now work in healthcare and see these challenges every day.
Family
Kevin and Cindy raised their children in Fulton County, where they attended local public schools. Their family has volunteered with Hands On Atlanta and other community organizations for years.
